At OFEK HUB it's important to us that our children remain connected to our roots and culture.
Along with our wonderful Hebrew courses, where students learn about the culture, landscapes, holidays, and current events in Israel, we invite you to enjoy enrichment courses for children and youth. They'll have an opportunity to make connections with students from all over the USA while deepening their knowledge on various topics.
In this course we'll explore the Jewish holidays of the Hebrew calendar and learn about their traditions and customs. We will discuss the big ideas and the meaning of the Tishrei holidays โ Rosh Hashanah, Sukkot, and Simchat Torah, while exploring our personal connection to them. We will use short videos and songs to connect us to these holidays.[For 2nd-4th, starting Sep 21]
Love cooking? Letโs do it together! Israeli cuisine is known for its diversity, thanks to Jewish immigrants who brought traditional dishes to Israel from all over the globe. These dishes have adapted to the current local pallet, but still maintain their original tastes and identity. In each class we will prepare Israeli food that is a part of the Israeli culture and, of course, is easy to make and tasty. [For 6th-12th, starting Oct 13]
How did the State of Israel come to exist? When did the idea of a Jewish state become a reality? In this course, we will look at the period in Israelโs history from 1917 (The Balfour Declaration) to modern-day Israel. We will study maps that tell the stories of Israelโs changing borders and explore the history of Israel through videos, music, art, and much more. [For 5th-8th, starting Nov 2]
In this Bโnai/Bโnot Mitzvah course, students will learn about the meaning behind the Bโnai/Bโnot Mitzvah year by implementing Jewish and Israeli core values, such as Social Justice, Tikkun Olam, and Mitzvot. We will utilize the Hebrew calendar to create context with other life cycle events. Join us in creating a safe space for โhands onโ learning, building, and empowerment. [For 6th-8th, starting Oct 26]
In this class, we will explore the power of Hollywoodโs first blockbuster Holocaust film, โSchindlerโs List,โ and the impact it had on the world, the future of Holocaust movies, and Holocaust education. [For 7th-12th, starting Nov 10]
In this course we will zoom in to famous, and not so famous, Jewish heroes. We'll learn about their life and their contribution to Judaism, Israel and the world. [For 4th-6th, starting Jan 18]
